Hitam

Hitam, an Amsterdam-based artist, is a key figure at Eerste Communie, renowned for creating immersive sonic worlds that blend deep techno, ambient, and avant-garde experimentalism. His music transcends genre boundaries, serving as a form of aural architecture, sculpting frequencies and textures into spaces evoking ritual and revelation. Hitam's compositions intertwine ancient echoes with futuristic resonances, utilizing field recordings, modular synthesis, and fragmented tribal samples to create rhythmic landscapes that breathe and shift like living ecosystems. His sound often evokes swamps, mountains, forgotten shrines, subterranean crypts, and dreamlike wetlands, blurring the lines between the human and the elemental. As the founder of Rhiza Semar, Hitam has established a label guided by geological, ritualistic, and esoteric pillars. Through this framework, the label extends into graphic design, visual art, and sound curation that reflects the same mythic consciousness present in his compositions. Each release contributes to an ongoing narrative of a vast underworld, where sound functions as matter and time folds back into itself. Hitam's DJ sets at institutions like Tresor, Bassiani, De School, K41, and live performances at Awakenings Nxt Museum and STOOR transform dancefloors into liminal zones of trance and transformation. His music bridges the cerebral and the physical, the sacred and the feral, inviting immersion into realms of shadow and light. In Hitam's world, music is not entertainment but excavation, a means of unearthing the primal and the transcendent that lie buried within the listener. Each piece invites immersion into a realm where one becomes both the seeker and the sound itself.

Hitam played in Robus at RSO Deestricted on 4 July 2026.
