Suricata

Suricata

Suricata, born and raised in Mexico City, currently resides in Paris. With roots in classical music, this multidisciplinary artist bridges underground electronic music, traditional music, and orally transmitted sounds. Using ethno-musical archives from African, Mexican, and everyday field recordings, Suricata incorporates synths, piano, and self-constructed instruments to forge an afro/indo/Latin electronic identity. Their music and sound work delve into themes of identity and rituality, blending cultural references and reflecting the social inequalities of Mexico City and the world. Suricata's creations offer cynical and satirical perspectives that challenge contemporary aesthetic trends, inviting listeners to break free from fear and embrace feelings. Transitioning between contemplative and active listening mediums, Suricata designs modern rituals involving sensory deprivation and meditation, as well as creating pieces for rave culture. Their work includes "tza tzun tzat" (2015) and "The only way out is in" (2020). Currently, they are based in Paris, working towards sharing and creating within a free and caring community.

Suricata played in Siebdruckfloor at Moyn festival 2024.
