Bixiga 70, a São Paulo-based big band, blends Malinke traditions, cumbia, and spiritual jazz to create a globally influential fusion sound rooted in Brazil's largest metropolis. Formed in 2010 at Traquitana studios in the Bixiga district (Rua Treze do Maio, number 70), their name reflects both their location and the 1970s aesthetic they embrace, drawing from influences such as Afrobeat and the Black Rio Movement.
