Mitsune

Mitsune combines traditional Japanese folk with psychedelic, cinematic, and ritual music, creating unique compositions that rejuvenate ancient tales. The Berlin-based quartet, led by two female shamisen players, incorporates percussion and bass, offering modern folklore infused with driving beats, raw emotion, and elaborate costumes. With a multinational lineup of musicians from Japan, Australia, and Greece, Mitsune has garnered international acclaim, earning praise from Rolling Stone and Songlines magazine. Their 2022 album Hazama reached the Transglobal World Music Chart's Top 10 and was nominated for the German Record Critic's Prize, with a new release anticipated in 2025.
