Suricata
Suricata, a multidisciplinary artist hailing from Mexico City and currently residing in Paris, blends classical music, underground electronic sounds, and orally transmitted music to forge an afro/indo/-latin electronic identity. With a background in classical music, Suricata delves into ethno-musical archives from Africa, Mexico, and everyday field recordings, playing synths, piano, and self-constructed DIY instruments. The artist's work explores themes of identity and rituality, interweaving cultural references and reflecting the social inequalities of Mexico City and the world. Suricata's creations offer cynical and satirical mirrors that challenge contemporary aesthetic trends, inviting listeners to break free from fear and embrace a more connected existence. From contemplative and active listening mediums to modern rituals involving sensory deprivation and meditation, Suricata's music transcends various contexts, including rave culture, where communal character and collective interdependence are paramount. In 2020, the artist released "The only way out is in." Currently, Suricata is based in Paris, working towards sharing and creating within a free and caring community.
