VOYA, a Berlin-based duo consisting of Mette Nadja and Johanna Weckesser, reinterprets the compositions of French composer Charles Koechlin. Their unique art songs span from naively light to tragically romantic, reaching almost abstract modern tones. Johanna Weckesser's guitar arrangements make these pieces playable on the guitar, and she collaborates with Mette Nadja, one of the most exciting young voices in the Berlin and Copenhagen jazz scene. With deeply tuned guitars, a hint of electronics, and Mette Nadja's raw, fragile to highly explosive voice, these art songs gain a slightly surreal, edgy side and even a pop appeal. Greg Cohen, bassist for Ornette Coleman, Tom Waits, and Woody Allen among others, has praised VOYA as "the freshest new voice in improvisational music I have heard in many years."
